Kia ora! I’m Kathleen, an independent filmmaker of Irish and Pākehā descent based in Te Whanganui-a-Tara, Wellington.
I primarily write and direct documentary content with a focus on politically challenging stories. My process centers around collaboration with my subjects, and I’m proud to work with majority women and gender diverse crews.
I’m interested in stories of gender and sexual diversity, local history and grassroots movements, nerd culture, anti-racism and re-indigenisation, working-class and women’s stories, and ultimately – revolution.
Currently:
I work as a Lecturer in Digital Media Production and Documentary at Te Kunenga Ki Pūrehuroa / Massey University.
I live / organise / document / host events in 13 Garrett Street, a converted warehouse building in Te Aro. I write an email newsletter about our events that you can check out HERE.
