Minimum

Minimum is a powerful documentary series combining animation with factual interviews. Each short episode shares stories from women of all ages, ethnicities and sexualities working in precarious, underappreciated and minimum wage jobs in Aotearoa.

As New Zealand celebrates the 125th anniversary of women’s suffrage, the struggle for equality continues for so many women.
Minimum asks the viewer: Is this okay?

Minimum was funded by NZ On Air and produced for RNZ by Notable Pictures, with the support of Loading Docs. Directed by Kathleen Winter.

Minimum is a triumph of not only the genre, but of the short doco series form. It distils the experiences of a spectrum of women down to a few minutes each, and by making a collage of these different experiences it builds up an implicit argument: these women are strong, these women are worthy, and the work they do is important. ... If you look at these women and listen to what they have to say and don’t feel anything or do anything, you’re flat-out complicit.
